Assessment Approaches

Before Teaching: It is important to assess students' prior knowledge before starting a unit. This will allow for more effective planning. It can also let teachers know if the students having any misunderstandings about any particular concepts. A good way to accomplish this is by having a classroom discussion and students can create a KWL chart.

During Teaching: There are many ways to monitor students' progress during the unit. One way of doing this is by utilizing the inquiry questions. Having students reflect on the concepts they have learned each day will also provide a good tool for assessment.

After Teaching: Implementing a final project can show what students have learned. In this case, the students will be creating their own sports for the classroom Olympics. By properly incorporating the physics concepts which they have learned throughout the unit, it will show us their sense of understanding.
