Euglena (a flagellate)
This organism was found in a pond in Flagstaff, Arizona.
This specimen is probably Euglena cyclopicola.
Questions:
- How does this single-celled organism move?
- Can you think of other types of movement that are similar to the one you see here?
- How are the flagella (the long hair-like fibers) arranged and how do they help move this organism?
- Can you find any cycles in the video? How do these cycles compare to other cycles you know about?
- What else can you find out about this critter?
