Engagement And Inquiry Solid Liquid Gas

Describe one or more approaches that the teachers can use to engage the children in this unit:

  • One way for the teachers to engage the children is by having them go around the classroom, and identify things that you would put out. Another way is to have the children to try and create another project that would use solid, gas, and liquid. For instance, we can have them make oblek, this is one experiment that they can do, so that they can see what is a solid, gas and liquid.

Describe one or more approaches that the teacher can use to engage children in each subunit strand:

  • One way that teachers can engage the children in a subunit strand is to allow the children come up with their own recipes for hot chocolate. Another subunit that they can do, is to create their own solid, gas, and liquid experiment. Some examples that they can do is the following: oil and water, making lemon fizzy drink, or anything experiment that they can do is make jello. All of these subunits are fun and interesting to children.

Describe the approach you will take to inquiry. To what degree are inquiries student-directed, and to what degree are they teacher-directed? Why types of inquiry are included (experimental, observational, theoretical, etc):

  • This unit has inquires that are experimental, and observational. The reason they are both of those is because as a teacher, you have to show your student the experiment that they will be conducting in class. Then, as you let them go and do their own projects/experiments, you have to observe them. You have to make sure that they are being safe, not messing around, etc. Both of these inquiries are student and teacher directed. The reason being is that you can't have one without the other in this unit. As well as you have to make sure that the students are being safe with the materials being used.

What end-product(s) will be used as one or more goals for the students to work towards for this unit? Will the students be producing a video, book, dramatic performance, website, and or other types of products. You may have one big goal and several smaller ones for each subunit:

  • The end product that the students will be working towards for this unit is creating a book that will describe their project/experiments that they conducted. In this book, the students will draw pictures or take pictures as they are doing their projects. They will also describe the process that they went through. Also, they will explain the three phases of matter in details when they are describing the process that they did when creating their experiments. After completing this project/experiment, the students will present it to the class.
